​An Enemy of the People is a story about a man who dares to speak the truth and faces tremendous opposition as a result. Dr. Thomas Stockmann, the protagonist, discovers that the water in the town’s spa — an essential source of income for the community — is contaminated. When he attempts to warn the public and rectify the situation, he is met with fierce resistance from local officials, business leaders, and even the townspeople themselves.
